Summary
The Social Network a movie based on Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg, is directed by David Fincher, and based on a book by Ben Mezrich's entitled, The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal. The film tells the rags-to-riches tale of how Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg was transformed from an intelligent, socially awkward Harvard University student to the hottest property in Silicon Valley for creating the online community. While the film sometimes portrays Zuckerberg in an unflattering light, the film's scriptwriter Aaron Sorkin said that Zuckerburg has taken it all in stride. Interspersed within the action of the film are scenes of depositions taken for lawsuits by Zuckerberg's former best friend and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, as well as by Olympic rowing twin brothers and former Harvard students Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, who sued Zuckerberg for unfairly decreasing his shares of the company. Sorkin said that there is always pressure to keep facts straight. The star of the movie, Jesse Eisenberg, also noted that while the purpose was to show the creation of Facebook, he didn't change his acting style to fit the mannerisms of Zuckerburg. The movie opened No. 1 in American box offices earlier this month and received warm reviews from members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who vote for the Academy Awards. It is set to open in Japan on January 15, 2011.
