Summary
The Last Exorcism which is presented to the audience as found footage hits US theaters August 27. The Last Exorcism follows the story of the exorcism of Nell Sweetzer, the daughter of Louis Sweetzer, a Louisiana farmer. Sweetzer is convinced that his daughter has been possessed by a demon. As a last resort to save her soul, Sweetzer requests the help of reverend Cotton Marcus, an evangelical minister known for the many exorcisms he has performed throughout his career. In the film, Reverend Marcus has decided that this will be his last exorcism so he agrees to have a crew follow him and document the story. However, the experience not only uncovers the fraud of this reverend's ministry but also shocks everyone involved. Neither the crew nor the family are prepared for the evil that will haunt them. Actor Patrick Fabian, who plays Louis Sweetzer, confessed to his own fear while filming the story. You know, I come to set and she pulls out stuff like that and so it really helped lend an authenticity to being creeped out and make the mood correct you know? said Fabian, referring to his co-star Ashley Bell's ability to bend and distort her body without the need of special effects. Producer Eli Roth, who also directed the first two installments of the Hostel franchise and co-starred in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, is happy with the creation and result of this film. If you think about it, horror movies are the last place in society where it's socially acceptable to be scared. said Roth. But we do have all these feelings that are bundled up all our whole lives and when you watch a scary movie you're able to release them. So, even as a filmmaker and a spectator, I always saw it as a very healthy experience, it was never real violence, it was just a representation of violence.
