SWAT:-Dozens of Swat college girls lodged protest against naming their institution after Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani girl shot in the head by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, media reported on Wednesday.
The students of the Government Girls College Saidu Sharif, forced the college to shut the institution and demanded the provincial authorities to restore the original name of the college.
Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa’s Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti had approved the summary to name the college after Malala Yousafzai on October 16.
The angry protestors tore apart the posters of Malala Yousafzai and gave three-day ultimatum to the provincial government for the restoration of the college name.
A large decrease in Malala’s popularity was noticed in the country including her native city after an unusual interest of the United States and other western countries in the issue, according to media reports.
The college girls were completely against the provincial government decision to change the name of the college. “The girls had demanded the college administration to restore the name…but they lodged a protest after their demands were not met.”
Subsequently, the college administration held talks with the students and ensured that they would raise the issued in front of provincial government.
