Summary Legislative body of the Senate has sought detail of recruitment of teachers in model colleges.

The Senate body on Friday asked Secretary Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) to provide details pertaining to mechanism of recruitments for teachers of model colleges, their deputation and transfers.Meeting of sub-committee of Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat held under Ms Saeeda Iqbal in the parliament house to discuss performance and issues of public schools working under the supervision of CADD.Committee showed resentment over poor infrastructure in the model schools and colleges for boys and girls as they are over burdened and failed to provide quality education to students. Senators said that we are spending millions rupees on higher education but we also need to focus on grass root level where situation is worsening.Committee also raised the issue of transport facilities for the students and directed Secretary CADD to provide transport facilities to the students of federal capital.Committee said that officials from education department and CADD did not highlight the educational issues and their silence is providing an opportunity to finance department to delay development funds for this key sector.Sub-committee directed secretary CADD to prepare a list of those schools where basic facilities are not available and inform that why immediate steps have not taken for redressal of this issue.Officials informed the legislators 25,861 teachers have been given training for capacity building at national level and abroad as well. Committee directed officials to give details of teachers who got training and from where they got training.Senator Robina Khalid said that time has come that we should accept our mistakes and take steps to address those mistakes and be fair with ourselves and the country.Officials informed the legislative body that from 2018 only those persons with BS in education would be eligible to apply for teachers while in Punjab this mechanism would be adopted from 2015.Officials informed that currently 178 teachers are working on deputation from other departments while more than 75 teachers are on deputation in different departments.
