Summary The government has failed to re-constitute the Board of Directors of Virtual University (VU).
An official of the Virtual University, requesting anonymity said the failure in reconstitution of the Board of Directors has made its acting rector administrative decisions questionable, said an official, requesting anonymity.The official said even after expiration of his term as Registrar, Dr Sadaqat Mehdi was enjoying perks and privileges being an acting rector of Virtual University.The official said Dr Sadaqat Mehdi was working as Registrar in the university and after completing his term of employment the then Secretary Information Technology Farooq Awan awarded him extension and appointed him as acting Rector of the university.His extension as registrar has been completed; however, Sadaqat has once again applied for another extension while at the same time he is holding his illegal position of acting rector.Official told that acting rector was enjoying perks and privileges in the absence of Board of Governor as Board of the university has not been constituted from last one year and this matter was pending while certain administrative decisions have been taken in the absence of Board.The official further said that during his term Dr Sadaqat Mehdi has taken certain steps including affiliation of different institutes while the status of those affiliations is questionable as Dr Sadaqat Mehdi is holding illegal position.This scribe could not reach federal secretary information technology Amir Tariq Zaman and Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Farooq Awan for comments despite repeated attempts on their cell phone.
