The new semester at Indian and Pakistani schools in the UAE started with a bang as most of the Asian schools reopened on Sunday after a long summer break of more than two months.Most of the schools registered good attendance, as they welcomed students with improved facilities in keeping with modern educational needs.Students were quite excited as they rejoined the school after a long vacation and were seen running enthusiastically towards their classrooms to reunite with their friends after a long vacation and meet new classmates. They were seen busy chatting and sharing experiences they acquired during the vacation.Teaching started on the very first day in all the classes as all the academic staff joined one week prior to the reopening of the school.Special assemblies were held in some of the schools to welcome the students to the new semester, where their progress was hailed and they were encouraged to focus on their goals.According to school authorities the attendance was reasonably good, which may become normal by the next week.TRAFFIC CHAOSResidents of Sharjah experienced unprecedented traffic chaos as schools reopened on Sunday. Children studying in Dubai schools and their parents were hit the most.Most of them spent one to two hours more than the usual time they need to cover the distance from home to schools.Unusual congestion on most of the roads cast an impact as a number of wards reached schools late. Some people attributed it to the parents’ concern to drive their wards safely to school on the first day.Faiz Ahmad said that the traffic jam in the localities where the schools are situated was unprecedented.He pointed out that school reopening was just one of the factors that might have contributed to the traffic snarl.A number of other parents also voiced similar opinions and said that changing school hours would be helpful.They praised efforts to develop road networks in and around the school areas in various emirates and said that it was a positive sign.
