Summary EDUCATION union campaign flyers have been distributed in a school newsletter despite a strict ban.
The ban forbids political information being forwarded to parents through students. The flyer, inserted in Athelstone Schools newsletter late last month, urged parents to register their support for changes to school funding recommended in the recent Gonski review as part of the unions I give a Gonski campaign. While the policy breach has been put down to human error, the Australian Education Union has questioned why school governing councils are not free to include whatever information they want in newsletters. An Education Department spokeswoman said the school had apologised for the error and a note was sent home to parents informing them of the mistake. The school will review its procedures to ensure it adheres to the appropriate policy for distributing information to the school community, the spokeswoman said.
