Three police officers in Gujranwala, including an SHO, have been arrested for extorting money from a citizen. An inquiry confirmed their misconduct, leading to criminal charges.
GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) - Three police officers — including a Station House Officer (SHO), a sub-inspector, and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) — have been arrested on charges of bribery and abuse of power.
According to police sources, the officers forced a citizen to sign a stamp paper and extorted money from him. City Police Officer (CPO) Muhammad Ayaz Saleem took immediate notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry, directing SSP Operations Ghayyur Ahmed to submit a report.
The inquiry confirmed the allegations to be true, and the accused — Inspector Luqman, Sub-Inspector Ghulam Fareed, and ASI Khalid — were found guilty. A case has been registered against them under charges of abduction, extortion, and misuse of authority.
CPO Ayaz Saleem said that no leniency will be shown to the “black sheep” who tarnish the image of the police department. He stressed that corruption and misuse of power will not be tolerated, warning that officers crossing the line will end up behind bars.
