LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – Clear reduction in crime rate was observed in 2016 compared to 2015. Robberies dropped by 39% and sectarian killings dropped to zero. However, the number of kidnappings saw a rise during the current year. 4081 people were murdered in various incidents throughout the year, reported Daily Dunya.
According to a report, police arrested 9177 suspects from 3006 criminal groups and recovered amount and material worth Rs 1,278,186,000. Robberies dropped by 39%. There were 1520 reported incidents of robbery and street crime in 2015 while the number dropped to 923 in 2016.
The number of murders during the robbery dropped by 21% while car snatching incidents decreased by 22%. Murder incidents saw a drop of 9%.
A total of 4481 murder crimes were registered in 2015 while in 2016 the total was 4081.
Mischief crimes decreased by 25% while the sectarian killings dropped to zero. No person in Punjab was killed on sectarian issues during 2016.
Similarly, 235 cases of extortion were registered during the year and all the suspects were arrested.
Meanwhile, kids’ kidnappings surged in 2016 but 95% of the kids kidnapped have returned home.
