KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has thwarted a drug smuggling attempt in its recent operation in open seas, reported Dunya News.

According to details, drugs worth $ 1.5 billion were also recovered during the successful operation. In addition, nine smugglers linked with an international drug cartel were also arrested in the process.

Custom officials and other law-enforcement agencies carried out the operation.

Director General Pakistan Maritime Security Agency revealed on the occasion that the operation was carried out on the basis of shared intelligence information. He let it be known that the operation was carried out after the close monitoring of maritime passages alongside Pakistan Navy, based on the shared intelligence information.

Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar also revealed on the occasion that nine smugglers were arrested during the operation.

It has been the second major successful operation by PMSA in the current month.
