GUJARAT (Dunya News) – A 28-year-old woman who was set ablaze by his husband and in-laws succumbed to injuries in Gujarat today (Saturday).
The slain woman Afshan was married to driver Abdul Majeed and was continuously cursed over not bringing enough dowry.
Abdul Majeed and his mother doused Afshan in petrol and torched her for refusing to demand a car from her father.
The victim was immediately referred to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital by the doctors where she died.
Afshan’s father lodged a report at Tando police station after which security officers nabbed suspect Abdul Majeed while his mother fled the scene.
Many of such crimes are carried out by relatives who say the victims have brought shame on the family.
Few cases go to court, but among those that do, attackers are often forgiven under a clause of law rooted in Islamic law. Legislation is currently pending at Pakistan s parliament to close the loophole, which many say encourages such attacks.
