CJ takes action on lawyer’s killings

Summary The CJP has ordered Punjab police to present report of the incidents within 10 days.

ISLAMABAD (Online) - Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary has taken notice on the murder of two lawyers in Ferozewala and Vehari and ordered Punjab police to present report within 10 days in the court regarding these incidents.

The three member bench started the hearing of the case on Monday. CJP in his remarks said that the government is talking about providing protection to the common man, but the series of the killing of the lawyers is not going to stop.

He said that giving protection of property and lives of the people is the responsibility of the government and all the people especially the legal fraternity should be provided safety.

The SC also ordered KP government to hold an inquiry through high ranked police officers on the murder of another lawyer Anwar-ul-Haq Advocate who was killed near Khanpur Dam.

Advocate Taufeeq Asif told the court almost 45 days ago, lawyers was kidnapped, but no action was taken by the police so far.

The additional attorney general Shah Khawar said that he has submitted the reply from IG Islamabad as well as IG Punjab in the court. He said that as far as the murder of Zaheer Gondal is concerned, law enforcement agencies have not shown any development about the case, but with connection of murder of Chaudhry Zulfiqar, a accused named Abdullah was arrested.

He said that Anwar-ul-Haq advocate was murdered in Golra, a suburb town of federal capital Islamabad but his car was recovered from the bank of Khanpur dam so Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has nothing to do with the case.

The CJP ordered to gather all the applications in this regard and may be treated as one case. The court adjourned the hearing of the case for 10 days.
