England’s Moeen Ali confirms his return to the Pakistan Super League after four years, praising its high quality, passionate crowds and new era of expansion
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has confirmed his return to the Pakistan Super League after a four-year absence, describing it as the beginning of a “new era”.
The league, which completed its landmark 10th edition earlier this year, is preparing to expand to eight teams with the addition of two new franchises. Moeen previously represented Multan Sultans in the 2020 and 2021 editions.
The 38-year-old cricketer, who featured in 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is for England, said that playing in Pakistan had always been an “incredible” experience. In his Instagram post, Moeen praised the PSL's evolution since its launch in 2016, highlighting its top-level T20 standards, competitive quality and world-class talent across all teams. He stated that he was “very excited to be joining HBL PSL in its New Era”, and added that he was “ready for another special experience, Insha’Allah”.
PSL comeback
Moeen, who was part of England’s historic Test tour of Pakistan in 2022, has visited the country multiple times. Reflecting on his experiences, he said that Pakistan offers outstanding cricketing quality and unmatched crowd energy. “Playing in Pakistan is always incredible; quality of cricket is outstanding and the passion and intensity from the crowd push you to bring your best,” he said.
In his comments, Moeen labelled the PSL as a prominent force in global T20 cricket, noted for its competitive matches and highly skilled players. He expressed his enthusiasm for rejoining a tournament he considers among the finest T20 platforms in the world, adding that he looks forward to “creating some great memories along the way”.
Former South Africa captain leaves IPL to embrace Pakistan Super League challenge
Moeen’s announcement coincides with former South African captain Faf du Plessis confirming his withdrawal from the Indian Premier League auction to focus on playing in the upcoming PSL season. In his Instagram post last week, du Plessis described the move as a major decision filled with gratitude for his past experiences.
