Summary Australia won the toss and decided to bat first in ICC U19 Cricket World Cup final against India.

TAURANGA (Dunya News) - Australia won the toss and decided to bat first in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup final against India at Bay Oval, Tauranga on Saturday.

Speaking after the toss, Australian captain Jason Sangha said: "Every game we re improving and I think we are now close to playing our best cricket. Every day we re becoming more confident. We re just a better team than we were in the first game, and now we re ready to play our best cricket."

In his brief statement after the toss Indian captain Pritvhi Shaw said I would also have opted to bat first, actually. Wicket seems to be good, the same as when we played the first game here. I m really enjoying leading my country. I m very proud, and I m really looking forward to this game. We as a team are ready, we re really looking forward to it and we hope everyone will do well today.

This is the fifth time that Australia have made the final of the tournament. India are playing the final for the sixth time, including in the last edition in 2014, when they lost to the Windies.

Australia and India have won the title three times each with a fairly even record in ICC U19 Cricket World Cups when it comes to head-to-head encounters but India have had the edge in recent years as well as in this tournament, which culminates after an elaborate league-cum-knockout competition that saw 16 teams in the fray.

Teams:

Australia XI: M Bryant, J Edwards, J Sangha*, J Merlo, P Uppal, N McSweeney, W Sutherland, B Holt (wk), Z Evans, R Hadley, L Pope.

India XI: P Shaw*, M Kalra, S Gill, H Desai (wk), R Parag, A Sharma, A Roy, K Nagarkoti, S Mavi, S Singh, I Porel.
