Tamim struck six fours and a sweetly-timed six off Perera over long-on in his 25th Test fifty.
Left-arm chinaman Lakshan Sandakan trapped Kayes leg-before at the stroke of lunch, ending the left-handed batsman’s 75-ball stay.
Mominul Haque was unbeaten on 26 when lunch was taken at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Bangladesh, who are without injured all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, handed left-arm spinner Sunzumul Islam his Test debut but left out veteran Abdur Razzak, who was recalled to the squad after four years.
