Summary Dion Taljard sexually assaulted a woman over 150 times in ten year period
(Web Desk) – Former South African bowler Dion Taljard has been convicted in the rape case against him and sentenced to 18 years in prison by the court in United Kingdom (UK).
According to reports, he sexually assaulted a woman over 150 times in the period of ten years. The court was informed that she used to become unconscious during the attack as Taljard grabbed her by the throat.
The former South African cricketer played first class and List-A formats during his career from 1993-1999. In his 25 appearances for South Africa, he once scored a hatrick against Pakistan back in 1998.
Taljard had initially met the victim in a pub. He was drunk and forced her to comply. The attacks continued to happen until 2015 when she filed a complaint against Taljard who was found to be a suspect.
The one-week long trial resulted in the conviction and Taljard was found guilty of 19 counts of rape. On the other hand, the ex-cricketer claimed his innocence and plans to file objections on the verdict. The victim s prosecutor has rejected these claims and told her client was even threatened through messages after she filed the case. During the hearing, the victim stated, “I had physical and emotional abuse to the point where I wanted to end my life."
