Summary BCCI announced INR 50 lac for each player while MP govt gifted the team INR 50 lac
(Web Desk) – Players of Indian women’s cricket team have been showered with cash prizes along with praise as they returned home crowned as runners-up in Women s Cricket World Cup 2017.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had already announced INR 50 lac for each player in the team ahead of the big final against England, Madhya Pradesh (MP) state government gifted them INR 50 lac despite the loss against mighty England by nine runs. Even the support staff has been granted INR 25 lac each for their services.
MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a tweet, “Our daughters have made India proud & won millions of hearts with their stellar performance.” He announced to host a grand ceremony to welcome the female cricketers. “Winning & loosing is just a part of game. #WomensWorldCup2017 has been a comprehensive tournament for @BCCIWomen which will inspire many,” he said.
The top order batsman Harmanpreet Kaur and Amarinder Singh have been offered positions in Punjab police while the latter will be rewarded INR 5 lac for her performance. Indian cricketers from railways have been promised out-of-turn promotions.
On the other hand, International Cricket Council (ICC) rewarded the Indian women’s cricket team $330,000 which was the cash prize for runners-up team. Pakistan had been rewarded $2.2 million for winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
Indian captain Mithali Raj admitted that each member of their team is now a celebrity. “Now people are watching and following women s cricket,” she credited ICC while stressing the need for government support. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi amongst others praised the women players and their effort to reach the final.
