Summary Pakistan will lock horns with India in their first match on June 4.

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – Former Pakistan one-day international (ODI) captain Azhar Ali is likely to miss first match of International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy despite making a comeback in the ODI squad, reported Roznama Dunya on Thursday.

According to details, Ashar Ali was fined 40 percent of his match fee and was banned for one match due to slow over rate in last Australia ODI when he was leading the Pakistan team. The other players were also fined 20 percent of their match fee.

Azhar Ali could not maintain his spot in the team afterwards, and was replaced by Sarfraz Ahmed as the ODI captain. He was also not picked up for West Indies ODIs.

Although Azhar Ali is not the captain of Pakistan ODI team now, but the one-match ban is still on him. Pakistan’s next ODI is against India in ICC Champions Trophy, and only ICC rules will tell whether he would be allowed to represent Pakistan just as a player against India or not.

ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to start from June 1, and Pakistan will lock horns with India in their first match on June 4.
