Summary Abdul Qadir says fixers must be given severe punishments, should have happened in past too
LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Former Pakistan chief selector Abdul Qadir has on Sunday said that the fixing scandal mar Pakistan cricket still because the fixers weren’t dealt severely in the past, reported Dunya News.
Talking to Dunya News on ‘Cricket Dewangi’, Abdul Qadir said that tough punishments in the past might have helped prevent the corruption in the game today. “Incompetent people have turned Pakistan cricket into a circus”, he said. He added that every fixer, whether it be Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif or someone else, must be made an example.
According to Abdul Qadir, fixing is still a problem in Pakistan today because former greats like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Inzamam and Mushtaq weren’t given severe punishments. “Today’s cricketer doesn’t fear corruption because of our past mistakes”, he said.
Talking about the round-table conference suggested earlier, Abdul Qadir said that he wouldn’t have attended the conference even if Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had called one.
He said that board should seek ideas from the same foreigners who they pay heavy salaries to.
