Summary Babar Azam played a vital knock of 47 runs off 30 balls to help Karachi Kings record their first win

SHARJAH (Dunya News) - Karachi Kings  recorded their first win of the PSL 2017 as they defeated Islamabad United by 8 runs according to Duckworth-Lewis method, reported Dunya News.

Karachi Kings’ skipper Kumar Sangakkara has won the toss and asked the opponent’s captain to bat first on a bit different to the usual Sharjah track.

Overs 9.4 I Score 75/4 I Babar Azam 47* , Imad Wasim 8*

Karachi Kings were on their way to their victory and needed only 20 runs off 20 balls but rain stopped the proceedings. Karachi Kings needed 67 runs to win at that moment, which gave them 8 runs victory as they were ahead at that stage.

Chris Gayle failed again as Muhammad Irfan dismissed him in the very first over after scoring just 2 runs. Babar Azam was in impressive form as he he hit boundaries and sixes all over the ground.

Karachi s skipper Kumar Sangakkara was also dismissed by Irfan by adding only 2 runs to the total. Experienced batsman Shoaib Malik also did not stay with Babar for too long and went back to the pavillion after scoring 6 runs.

Ravi Bopana also got run out after adding just one run but Babar Azam kept going to keep Karachi on course for their first win of the competition this year. Imad Wasim joined him on the crease as they were 60/4 after 8 overs.

Islamabad United Innings

Overs 13  I  Score 90/8  I  Saeed Ajmal 0*, Shadab Khan 0*

Usama Mir is undoubtedly the hero of the match so far as he conceded just six runs in eleventh over of the match while giving away just 10 runs in his three overs. Usama also removed skipper Misbah in this over as he was caught by Babar Azam on the second ball of the eleventh over. Watson took the charge in the next over of Amir as he hit two massive sixes over long leg on the second and fourth ball of the over. Overall 18 runs were scored of the penultimate over by Amir.
When Watson was really in mood with Usman bowling last over of the innings, luckily for Karachi Kings, Watson got run out on the first ball of the last over. Asif Ali scored a boundary of the second ball of the over; however Usman came back strongly as two wickets fell immediately one after another on the third and fourth ball of the over. Moreover, another batsman got run out on the last ball as he was trying to take the second run. Eight runs came of Usman’s over. Karachi Kings to chase a revised target of 95 runs in 13 overs.

Overs 10  I  Score 58/3  I  Misbah-ul-Haq 16*, SR Watson 6*

A six came of the first ball of Kashif Bhatti’s over as he was introduced into the attack in the sixth over. Usman Khan drops an easy chance of his bowling at deep cover as 10 runs were scored of his over. Usama Mir bowls a brilliant over as only two runs were scored of the seventh over. Rain interrupted play in the eight over for a fair enough time as the match was restricted to 13 overs per side.
As the match resumed after the rain, both the batsman at the crease i.e. Smith and Misbah took on Kashif Bhatti immediately as they both hit massive sixes at the second and fifth ball of the over. Usama Mir comes into bowl and delivered brilliantly as he removed Smith this time. The dangerous hitter in an effort to hit a massive short fell safely into the safest hands of Sanga at short fine leg. Muhammad Amir comes into ball in the tenth over as he conceded a boundary on the first ball and still managed to control the score on the next five deliveries.

Overs 5 I Score 22/2 I Misbah-ul-Haq 3*, DR Smith 12*

Karachi Kings showed the aggression at the very outset of the game when Imad Wasim removed Sam Billings on the second ball of the very first over as he was trapped plumb in front of the stump. Brad Haddin comes into bat opened his account with a boundary. Amir came in the second over and bowled with pace, aggression and length to concede only 3 runs in the second over of the match. Imad came in third over and came back strongly to caught the dangerous Haddin of his own bowling on last ball.

Here comes Usman Khan in the fourth over as he bowls fiercely and with good line and length to concede just four runs in the over. Smith take on Imad in the fifth over as he hits a huge one for six while spoiling a good over from the spinner.
