NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - England comprehensively defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ICC World T20 2016 by 7 wickets to reach the final of the tournament, reported Dunya News.
England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss against New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson, and decided to bowl first.
New Zealand made a stable start to the innings but their progress was affected as the English bowlers were able to pick wickets near the end of the innings, decreasing the run rate. Munro was the top scorer for the Kiwis with 46 runs to his name whereas Ben Stokes was the star-performer for England with the ball as he picked 3 wickets. New Zealand finished their innings at 153/8.
English batsmen, from the very start of their innings, played with pure aggression and thrashed the New Zealand bowlers to all parts of the ground. Jason Roy played a wonderful knock of 78 runs off 44 balls that helped England to stay on top of the game. Ish Sodhi was able to pick up 2 wickets as England chased the total in 17.1 overs with 7 wickets to spare.
New Zealand ended on top of Group 2 during the group stage fixtures of the tournament whereas their adversaries in this particular game, England were on the second spot in Group 1.
