Summary Waqar said the game against Australia was most likely going to be his last as Pakistan coach

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Pakistan Head Coach Waqar Younis is likely to bid farewell to the team as its coach after the game against Australia, Pakistan’s last game in Men’s World T20. He reported to have said that the game against Australia was most likely going to be his last outing with the team as Coach.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Khan had on Sunday told a British media organisation in an interview that while T20 captain Shahid Afridi was going to be removed as captain immediately after the tournament, Waqar was likely to retain his post until June as his contract was going to end only then.

However, the defeat against New Zealand and rising whispers about grouping within the team have mounted pressure on both the captain and the coach for resigning from their posts. Afridi had stated in the post-match ceremony on Tuesday after the defeat against New Zealand that the game against Australia was most probably going to be his last. And now, Waqar has also reportedly told the team in an ‘emotional’ speech that he might also resign after the game against Australia.

It is not that Pakistan has completely lost its chances of reaching to the semi-finals. There are still chances if the events take an unlikely turn into Pakistan’s favour.

However, the spirits of the team seem to be at all-time low and there doesn’t seem to be much hope about their chances to make it to the semi-finals.
