Summary Younis assured that the national squad's bowlers can be the game changers in real manner.
KOLKATA (Web Desk) – Head coach Waqar Younis said he is confident that the green shirts will win against India in their most-awaited World T20 clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata today (Saturday).
“Pakistan has an advantage over India because of latter’s defeat against New Zealand in the opening match of the tournament,” said Younis.
“They have lost the last game and they must be worried that they can get knocked out of the tournament. That’s a huge worry especially when you are playing in your home ground,” he said.
“It’s an added pressure on them,” Younis added.
The former star bowler assured that the national squad’s bowlers can be the game changers in real manner.
“Even though Bumrah and Nehra are brilliant bowlers, we take edge with the pace given our bowlers can bowl up to 145-150 km/hr. Apart from Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz can also be a match winner for us,” he said.
On a quested related to the poor performance in the past matches, the coach stated that Pakistan-Bangladesh is an example where green shirts crossed the 200-run mark. He said that he is not worried about batting performance anymore.
Meanwhile, Younis also lauded Imad Wasim, who is making a name for himself in the spin line.
India and Pakistan will grind to a halt Saturday as hundreds of millions of cricket fans gather to watch the World Twenty20 match between the two arch-rival nations in Kolkata.
The match will start at 7 pm (PST).
Policemen battled to keep the fans from sneaking into the iconic stadium in order to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars during practice sessions.
"It’s hard to control the crowd at times. They are all eager to get in and watch some action. Sometimes we even have to use some force," police constable Sudhir Ray said.
Fans said they were nervous about predicting the outcome of the match.
Few Pakistan cricket lovers are expected to attend the game, after the venue switch from Dharamsala to Kolkata disrupted travel plans, with some denied visas at the last minute. But that did not stop the atmosphere from amping up at home.
Many fans were pinning their hopes on Pakistan’s most popular cricketer, captain Shahid Afridi, whose all-round performance against Bangladesh sealed a thumping win.
The World T20 is set to be the 36 year-old’s final tournament.
