Summary Contributions from Root, Roy see England defeat South Africa by 2 wickets
MUMBAI (Web Desk) - England cricket team on Friday created history by chasing the second highest total in World T20 history as they defeated South Africa by 2 wickets after chasing a humongous total of 230 runs in 19.4 overs, reported Dunya News.
England skipper, Eoin Morgan, won the toss and decided to field first against South Africa, led by Faf du Plessis, in the 18th match of the ICC World T20 2016 played on Friday.
From the beginning of the innings the South African batsmen batted with sheer force and aggression, hitting the English bowlers to all parts of the ground. The English bowlers seemed clueless as the Proteas batsmen dominated throughout the entire first innings which finished at 229 for 4. South African batsmen Amla, de Kock and Duminy scored fifties each. Moeen Ali took two wickets for England.
England batsmen started their innings with a positive mindset and gave a befitting reply to the South African bowlers. Jason Roy played a wonderful knock of 43 runs off 16 only balls, followed by Joe Root s responsible innings of 83 runs. The match ended in a bit of drama as 3 wickets fell in quick succession near the end of the innings but Moeen Ali ensured that England cross the line with a couple of balls to spare.
