COLOMBO (AP) - Opening batsman Upul Tharanga hit an unbeaten 81 in Sri Lanka's 162-2 at tea on the opening day of the second test against Pakistan on Thursday.
Tharanga's fifth half-century score in his 20th test took 163 deliveries and included 11 boundaries at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
Pakistan's bowlers picked up two in the middle session including that of in-form Kumar Sangakkara who made a double-century in the first innings of the first test.
Resuming at 69-0 after lunch, opener Kaushal Silva was caught behind for 41 off seamer Junaid Khan. Sangakkara made 22 before being bowled by Wahab Riaz.
Sangakkara's dismissal saw Mahela Jayawardene, who plays his final test, walk in to a guard of honor by the Pakistani fielders.
Jayawardene was batting on 4 at the interval.
