England off-spinner Graeme Swann took his 12th five-wicket haul in tests but stubborn resistance from the Sri Lankan tail carried the hosts to 151 for eight, an overall lead of 276, at lunch on the third day of the first test on Wednesday.Prasanna Jayawardene (23) and Chanaka Welegedara (6) were the unbeaten batsmen at the crease, having added 24 runs for the ninth wicket by the break.In hot and humid conditions in Galle, Swann (6-68) bowled unchanged for 15 to add two wickets to his overnight tally before being relieved shortly before lunch.Monty Panesar got the first breakthrough of the morning when he dismissed Dinesh Chandimal (31), who went for an inside out shot but only managed to scoop the ball for Kevin Pietersen to complete an easy catch at mid-off.His dismissal ended a 42-run sixth wicket stand with Suraj Randiv (18).Swann got in the act by trapping Randiv lbw and the bowling out Rangana Herath (7), but Jayawardene and Welegedara denied England any further success and are batting the hosts into a winning position on a low-scoring track that favours spin.
