ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Electricity consumers across Pakistan will face another increase in their power bills after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) notified an additional 52 paisa per unit under the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism.
The increase is expected to place an additional financial burden of more than Rs12.67 billion on electricity consumers across the country.
According to the NEPRA notification, the increase has been approved under the second quarterly adjustment of the current year.
The additional amount will be recovered through electricity bills for September, October and November, meaning the adjustment will remain applicable for three consecutive months.
Consumers will consequently pay an additional Rs0.52 for every unit of electricity consumed, subject to the categories and terms specified in the notification.
The tariff adjustment will also apply to K-Electric consumers, extending the impact of the decision to electricity users across the country.
NEPRA had earlier approved the quarterly adjustment. Following approval by the federal government, the power regulator has now issued the formal notification allowing recovery of the additional amount from consumers.
The latest increase comes at a time when electricity costs remain a major concern for households and businesses, with successive tariff adjustments adding to monthly utility expenses.
For illustration, an additional 52 paisa per unit translates into Rs52 on 100 units, Rs104 on 200 units, Rs156 on 300 units and Rs260 on 500 units, before applicable taxes and other billing components and subject to the notification’s consumer-category rules.
With the adjustment being collected over the next three months, electricity consumers will continue to face the additional charge through November.
