Summary Asian Development Bank plans up to $1 billion investment for Karachi Circular Railway, aiming to modernise urban transport and ease traffic congestion in Sindh’s largest city.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Asian Development Bank has expressed readiness to invest up to $1 billion in the revival and modernisation of the Karachi Circular Railway, a key urban transport project.
The development was discussed during a meeting between Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah and an ADB delegation led by Deputy Country Director Hussain Haider.
Officials reviewed plans to improve Sindh’s transport sector, including the development of integrated urban transit systems in major cities such as Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana.
According to officials, ADB’s support will focus on two major areas: establishing modern urban transport systems in large cities of Sindh and the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Karachi Circular Railway.
The chief secretary said the restoration of KCR is crucial for addressing Karachi’s growing traffic challenges, adding that the project would help reduce congestion and improve connectivity across the city.
ADB representatives reaffirmed their commitment to supporting sustainable transport initiatives and urban mobility solutions in the province.
