Summary CCP Pakistan, PIA privatisation, Arif Habib consortium
KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has approved the acquisition of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by the Arif Habib consortium.
According to the CCP, the PIA privatisation deal was cleared after a Phase One competitive review.
The commission said the transaction was not expected to create market dominance or reduce competition in any market.
CCP stated that PIA’s market share had declined over time, while competitive pressure in the sector remained intact.
The regulator added that privatisation was expected to improve efficiency and reduce the government’s financial burden.
It clarified that the approval was limited to competition-related aspects, while other regulatory requirements would remain in place.
