Summary Punjab government has decided to set up Tax Authority in order to collect taxes.
A formal announcement to this effect would be made in the near future.Provincial Finance Minister Kamran Michael said that the Federal Board of Revenue collects tax from the provinces but return of the revenue back to the provinces faces red tape. He said that Punjab being the largest province contributed major chunk to the federal divisible pool. He said that Punjab’s people deserved to have their taxes spent on their welfare.The provincial minister said that Punjab would raise the issue of discrimination on gas and electricity distribution at the next sessions of the Economic Coordination Committee and the AFC Award Committee.
