Summary Despite record cotton yield, formers are suffering due to not getting proper price,

The Agriculture Department has fixed the target to grow cotton on 437000 acres. The farmers allocated 32000 acres more than the desired land but despite a good yield they have failed to get a better price for cotton. This situation has created a kind of economic crisis for the cotton growers. During the current fiscal year the production of cotton stood at 575900 bales but its price has not exceeded from 2200 per 40 kg. The provincial government seems quite helpless in this regard. The provincial agriculture minister has said the federal government must intervene to facilitate the cotton growers. By buying cotton through Trading Corporation of Pakistan, the farmers could be facilitated, he added. So far, the government has not fixed the price of cotton due to which farmers are forced to sell it on cheaper rates.
