Summary Downward trend persisted in local refineries production in 2011.
Despite surge in the international oil prices, no improvement was recorded and local refineries declined by 4.4 percent to 7.7 million tonnes as against 8.1 million tonnes last year, for third consecutive year.This time devastating flood, few refinery turnarounds and operational issues led to production decline thereby reducing capacity utilisation to 68 percent from 70 percent last year. Subsequently, country’s reliance on the imported petroleum product remained above 60 percent.
