Summary Protest by the factory owners against increase in the sales tax entered fourth day on Wednesday.

The textile sizing factories in Faisalabad remained closed for the fourth day to protest against the increase in sales tax. Due to a 50 percent drop in supply of thread to power looms, these units are at the risk of being shut down. More than 100 factories that produce one size thread are closed. Due to the lack in production of thread, the work in power loom factories is also dropping and hundreds of power loom workers have been unemployed. Industrialists have said that the imposition of 17 percent sales tax, it has become very difficult for them to run their business. After the factory owners, traders have also rejected the new sales tax and have given the government five days to withdraw the decision.Shahid Razzaq, President of the Traders Association Faisalabad, said that if the government did not withdraw its decision, a complete shutter down strike will be observed from next week. On the other hand, Federal Board of Revenue, Sohail Ahmad, has called six heads of the industrial organisation in Faisalabad to Islamabad for talk on March 26.
