Summary The country is experiencing a huge trade deficit of billions of rupees, but still imports of luxurious and irrelevant items is ongoing due to which trade deficit has reached to 8 billion rupees in the first seven months of fiscal year.
According to a report, mobile phones worth 24 billion rupees have been imported in the first seven months of present fiscal year which is 91% more than last year’s import. Where as Pakistan being an agricultural country, food items worth 270 billion rupees were imported which is 80% more as compared to last year’s imports. The economic experts suggest that if government stops these imports of luxurious items, the trade defecit can be halved.
