TOKYO (AFP) - Tokyo stocks cast off early losses to end the morning session higher Tuesday, as a weaker yen lifted exporters as investors focused on Japan s plans for a sales tax hike.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index gained 0.49 percent, or 83.93 points, to 17,151.95 by the break.
The Topix index of all first-section shares climbed 0.50 percent, or 6.86 points, to 1,372.87.
