Summary

Special Committee of National Assembly for Petroleum has asked the Ministry of Petroleum to submit a report for regularizing the LPG prices. Additional Secretary Petroleum Aijaz Chaudhry, while briefing the committee, said that in 2007 the Economic Coordination Committee linked the LPG prices with the Saudi Company RAMCO, thats why OGRA had no powers to set the prices. Member Gas OGRA briefed the committee that 90% LPG was being produced locally. He said, The ex-mill price of a domestic cylinder is Rs 901 which becomes Rs 971 with addition of distribution margin of Rs 70. However, OGRA has added Rs 60 more to raise the price to Rs 1030 per cylinder. Director Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited Faseeh Ahmed said that they were ready to reduce the LPG prices by 50 percent if the government announces LPG policy while linking and regulating the prices with the international market. The committee also asked to submit details of the agreement between Jamshoro Joint Venture and Sui-Southern Gas Company.
