LAHORE (Dunya News) – Low yields of oranges in the season have lessened the total exports by at least 1.5 lac tonne making lacs of employees vulnerable to unemployment.

The All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA) has dispatched a letter addressed to Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif. The letter urges the government to take note of the current export situation.

According to the exporters, mere 2 lac tonne oranges would be exported in the ongoing year.

While in the same period of 2015, at least 3.50 lac tonne oranges were exported which were worth USD 19 crore.

The association further stated that if the situation is not taken control of the exports would fall further. Resultantly, lacs of people employed by the sector would lose their jobs. The exporters complained that the government has been notified several times in the past but no radical steps were seen.
