KARACHI (Dunya News) – Infants’ milk tins prices have hiked in local markets contrary to at least 50 percent drop in international markets in the ongoing year.

The international markets have seen price cut in powdered milk products in 2015 by at least 50 percent. However, the local markets prices contradict the plunge as Rs 150 have been added in the products’ retail business.

In international markets, the prices dropped to at least 2,000 USD from 4,000 USD in the ongoing year.

However, the experts have yet again stressed the fact that formula milk in no way can replace breastfeeding benefits. In some cases, doctors have to advise powdered milk because there is no other option but normally, breastfeeding should be treated as the only way.

The surge in local markets’ prices has come in after imports of toddlers and infants milk lessened. The prices have increased by at least 10 percent.

Karachi traders said that the imports have affected the supply and it is not only about milk but all baby products. Products including diapers, juices, baby cereals have also surged by 10 percent in Karachi.

On the other hand, Association of Retail Market’s official said that imposition of new taxes have accounted for the rise in prices along with other factors in the picture.
