Due to lack of proper arrangements, the wheat procurement target set by the government seems unlikely to be met. According to market sources, 8 to 9 million tons of wheat is expected to be sold in the market, however only 2 million tons of wheat has been purchased so far. The government initially had 8 million tons of buying target. Punjab Food Department would purchase 5 million tons of wheat while 3 million tons of wheat would be purchased by Government of Sind and Pasco.According to sources the three department failed to meet their targets, the Punjab government has procured only one million metric tons of wheat during the first 15 days of the campaign against the planned 2.5 million metric tons wheat. Agri Forum Chairman Ibrahim Mughal has slammed the government for its anti-agriculturist policies which are causing a severe blow to farmers.
