Summary Pakistan and Qatar have agreed to enhance cooperation in diverse sectors

The understanding came during talks between President Asif Ali Zardari and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in Doha on Wednesday.Both the countries have expressed their resolve to maintain strategic relationship and intensify cooperation in diverse fields especially trade and commerce‚ energy‚ agriculture‚ infrastructure and investment.The two leaders first had one-on-one meeting followed by delegation level talks in which the President was assisted by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar‚ Advisor on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr. Asim Hussain and Pakistans Ambassador to Qatar Muhammad Sarfraz Ahmad Khanzada.The two sides discussed in detail the current state of bilateral relations and agreed to upscale cooperation in various sectors to the mutual advantage.The Emir of Qatar reciprocated the sentiments of President Asif Ali Zardari and said his country was fully resolved to strengthen and diversify ties with Pakistan in different fields.He agreed that there was need to increase bilateral trade and explore ways and means for investment promotion.The Emir lauded efforts of Pakistan for regional peace and said its cooperation for restoration of stability in Afghanistan was crucial.Later‚ talking to Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani‚ President Zardari said that Pakistan is keen to further strength its already close ties with Qatar.The two leaders exchanged views on all aspects of bilateral relations‚ regional situation and international issues of mutual interest including defence cooperation.
