Summary USAID organized training on power sector improvement in collaboration with IESCO.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Power Distribution Program, in collaboration with the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), has started installation of Low Tension (LT) capacitors on tube wells in various circles of IESCO.In this regard, training for the engineers of IESCO’s Rawalpindi Circle was conducted at circle office Rawalpindi. More than 40 engineers of participated in the training.Currently the Power Distribution Program is assisting the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and IESCO in the installation of capacitors. The USAID’s installations of over 1500 LT capacitors in DISCOs have already resulted in an estimated 5.5 Megawatt (MW) reduction in demand, improved voltage and availability of surplus electricity.Power Distribution Program is a four and a half years, USAID-funded program aimed at working jointly with government-owned DISCOs in Pakistan to improve their performance in terms of a reduction in losses, and improvement in both revenues and customer services, to bring them to the level of well-run utilities in other progressive countries.
