Summary All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association says customer must have choice to buy local or imported cars.
In a press release Thursday the association said the used cars dealers were not against the local assemblers but there should be no compulsion on the customers to buy the local made vehicles only.“We only want that the Pakistani customer should have liberty to buy a car of his choice. ““Government should not provide crutches to anybody to prop them up. All we ask is a level-playing field for everybody and continuity in policies without such actions as the recent CGO 13/12 which has jeopardized billions of rupees of overseas Pakistanis,” the press release says. All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association supported its arguments with a factsheet that proves that nothing has been done by the local assemblers to provide cheap, quality car for the Pakistanis and low-price cars remain a dream for the Pakistanis even after 30 years. The prices of locally assembled cars have been increased by 100 % in the last four years on the pretext of rupee devaluation. The cheapest locally made car costs Rs 600,000 and this car has no accessories and safety features, the press release says, adding the imported used cars have all the safety features. The association says local assemblers have not fulfilled any of the conditions mandatory for local production. The dealers association has demanded lifting of all restrictions on the import of used cars.
