Chuadhris sought armys support to bar Zardaris advance

WikiLeaks divulged that Chuadhris sought armys opposition for Zardaris presidential candidature.

A cable sent to Washington by the US ambassador from Islamabad on August 16, 2008 revealed that Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Perviaz Elahi along with Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had a meeting with the US envoy.The US envoy wrote in the cable that Chaudhris wanted to prolong the matter of then president Pervez Musharraf’s resignation.The Chaudhris were thinking that delay in Musharraf’s departure will create a rift between their political rivals Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif and the PML-Q would take benefit of the situation.The politicians also discussed about giving a safe passage to Musharraf.
