SC allows Azfar to quit NRO review case

Azfar claimed that he was receiving threats and should be allowed to quit the case.

During the hearing of the NRO review petition in the Supreme Court, the counsel for the federation, Kamal Azfar, disclosed on Thursday that Advocate Abu Bakar Zardari had threatened him to stay away from the NRO case. He said that Zardari had hurled the threats in a telephonic conversation with his wife, Naheedah Jaffery. Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that the alleged threats were a hurdle in the judicial process.Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that Azfar was receiving threats today, but he (Justice Khawaja) could also face threats. The judges will have to pack and leave if the threats are not taken seriously, he said.The CJP summoned Islamabad Inspector General of Police Wajid Durrani and ordered him to investigate the matter and submit a report with the court registrar within in three days. He also allowed Azfar to leave the case.On the other hand, Zardari denied hurling any threat to Kamal Azfar.
